Six and a half minutes was all Dr Ryan Duchatel needed to win Best Pecha Kucha Presentation at the Australian Society for Medical Research satellite conference, held at Hunter Medical Research Institute in June 2019. Originating from Japan, this presentation style allows the speaker only 20 slides to communicate their findings- the clincher being that each slide is shown for just 20 seconds before automatically progressing to the next. Though entertaining for audiences, Pecha Kucha can be a challenging format for the presenter. Ryan presented the group’s latest investigation into combination therapies for DIPG identified via proteomic technologies- the study of proteins encoded by the genetics of a DIPG tumour. His confidence and composed delivery saw him take out the award, his second in this format in the preceding 6 months.
